The Microsoft Student Partner (MSP) program is one that is quite interesting, yet few know about it. To give a brief overview, it’s where bubbly and enthusiastic students like myself to go out and give out what Microsoft is already offering to the student community. Despite what many people think, Microsoft isn’t just concerned about making software. They also want to give something back to the community. That’s where we come into the picture.
So a bunch of MSPs from all over Australia got together today at Microsoft’s head office at Sydney, and kicked off the year of 2008. So begins the fun begins for the year. Let’s take a look at what we did today.
We started off with a recap of the events last year, taking a look at our events that happened last year. Nick introduced us to Karo, the new intern at Microsoft who’ll be taking over Nick’s role after his 1-year internship finishes. It looks like we’re in for an exciting year this year.
Nick then announced the “SPOTY” Student Partner of the Year. Congratulations to Ed Hooper, who whipped up some of the most amazing range of events in 2007, and winning the XBox 360!
Phil, from Atomic MPC, dropped by to discuss how he wants us to help him give away freebies. For a start, I scored myself the latest issue of the magazine. So to folks out there, watch out for stuff like free shirts, free caps, free mags and more coming up real soon. (By the way, that’s Karo on the right)
Appropriately and in true geek fashion, Andrew Coates gave us a quick demo using Office Live Meeting. We just happened to have a Microsoft RoundTable here at the board room, so he could see all of us in a 360-degree view. Take a look at the screenshot below, and you’ll see the funky things we do:
Diana, who runs It’s Not Cheating, came around to brief us about the the program, reloaded. It’s now open to TAFE students as well, but those of you who go to TAFE but don’t have an email address will not be able to register on the website. If you’re one of them, feel free to contact me and I’ll fix you up.
BootCamp had been loads of fun, and turbocharged us MSPs with inspiration at least for the rest of the year. I’m looking forward to bringing more Microsoft events and gadgets out there to those who live around Sydney Uni!

[...] Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough room to bring my laptop and camera up to Sydney with me, but Edmund Tse (another MSP) did, so he’s got a few photos up. [...]
